IconSlice Instagram grid & carousel size guide
Splitting one photo across several Instagram posts only looks seamless if you crop to the right dimensions first. Here are the sizes to use, then split the image with the Instagram grid maker or the carousel splitter - both run in your browser, nothing uploaded.
Single Instagram post size
Instagram stores feed images at up to 1080 px wide. The common ratios are 1:1 (1080×1080, square), 4:5 (1080×1350, portrait - the most screen space in the feed), and 1.91:1 (1080×566, landscape).
3×3 grid (9 posts)
For a seamless 3×3 profile grid, start from an image around 3240×4050 px (three 1080×1350 tiles across and down) and split it into 3 columns × 3 rows. Post the nine tiles in reverse reading order (bottom-right first) so they assemble correctly on your profile.
Carousel slide size
A swipeable carousel uses up to 10 slides at the same per-slide ratios (1:1 or 4:5). For a panorama that spans the whole carousel, make the source image 1080 px × N wide (e.g. 3240 px for 3 slides) and split into N columns × 1 row.
How to post the tiles in order
- Crop or build your source image at the dimensions above.
- Split it with the grid maker (3×3) or carousel splitter (N×1).
- Export the ZIP - tiles are named in order.
- For a grid, upload bottom-right to top-left; for a carousel, upload left to right.
